Mini-courses
Anyone who is interested in running a mini-course should contact the organisers directly to discuss their ideas. The intention would be to include any of these within the normal three days of the conference.
Industry led panel session: What does industry want from graduate engineers and can this be delivered?
This is a panel session with the main aim of encouraging dialogue between industrial and academics on what attributes contribute to an effective undergraduate engineering programme.
The prime focus is how do universities give the best preparation possible for students entering engineering careers, with some focus towards industry sectors where control topics are prevalent.
LEGO Mindstorms with MATLAB and Simulink for teaching controls, robotics and mechatronics (Mathworks)
This workshop describes the built-in support for prototyping, testing, and running Simulink models on LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT. This platform aims to address the growing need for hands-on and project-based learning via a low-cost, easy to use hardware and software platform that builds on the widely used MATLAB and Simulink platform.
SimView - A free library of interactive real-time simulators for learning dynamics and control (Finn Haugen, Telemark University College, Norway)
Demonstration of selected SimView simulators (http://techteach.no/simview). Participants can run the simulators themselves on desktop PCs during the session, or use their own laptops.
Control System Design with LabVIEW (National Instruments, Hannah Wade)
Gain real, hands-on experience with graphical system design to develop, simulate and deploy control systems. Learn how you and your students can develop control models directly in LabVIEW or integrate existing .m script models.
Also, learn how these models may be deployed to embedded targets for deterministic simulation, before integrating real-world signals to verify system responses. See how a single, unified platform can take you from simulation through to rapid prototyping and deployment.
